Any guy that stands approximately 5’6” or under can attest to the fact that sometimes finding clothes that fit correctly can be a challenge at most US department stores. Many times, shorter guys are forced to swallow their pride and shop for clothes in the “boys” section, which can hardly be a fun experience.
Just like “Big and Tall” clothes specialty shops, there are a few specialty men’s clothing shops that specialize in catering to men that stand about 5’7” or under.
But unfortunately, unlike the “Big and Tall” shops, the smaller men’s specialty clothing shops’ numbers are dwindling fast.
According to this NY Times article, a combination of the heavy-handed recession along with the fact that many men are, in fact, getting taller has put many of these shops out of business.
Luckily, however, this news comes at a time when its easier than ever to shop for clothes if you’re a smaller guy. The explosion in popularity of the internet has made shopping for clothes as easy as clicking a button. And there’s never been more resources available at your fingertips.
One of the best resources that I’ve come across is the aptly-named website Short Shrifted, which recently celebrated its 3rd birthday. Even if your personal style doesn’t exactly line up with the author’s, its certainly worth checking out because he’s always digging up and posting informative posts about the resources he finds online.
