It’s Time to End Heightism in 2010

by Hayden Carter

HeightismTime Magazine ran a particularly compelling article on the subject of Heightism – but not recently. In fact, the article ran October 4, 1971 – nearly 30 years ago.

Heightism, as you know, is a particularly damaging form of prejudice inflicted on persons that are considered to be “short” or even “not tall enough.” The prejudice is most damaging for two reasons: one, because it affects every aspect of the life of the person who is being slighted and two, because heightism is not even thought to be a prejudice at all. In fact, when confronted with their obvious prejudice, the person slighting the height-challenged person will often be shocked that they were being discriminatory at all.

But we all know that heightism is alive and well in our modern society in our modern time (almost 2010 now) but what is really shocking about this article is that in the last 28 years, absolutely nothing has been done to correct the misdeeds and misinformation that the public has about heightism. Simply put, to the vast majority of people in the United States and across the world, in all societies, heightism just doesn’t exist to them. And if anything at all, it’s only getting worse.

Men get the worst of the brunt of this form of prejudice, to be sure. As the article states, even back in 1971 taller men earned, on average, over 12% more in starting salary than their shorter, equally-qualified colleagues. But perhaps even more disturbing is the fact that women of all heights greatly prefer taller men to date and to marry than shorter men. So much so, in fact, that the statistical differences of shorter men that marry as compared to tall men are staggering.

This, of course, matches the other statistical facts that shorter men are less likely to have children, more likely to be depressed, and more subject to harmful abuse of alcohol and drugs.

Sadly, even as we approach 2010, there still doesn’t seem to be an end in sight for heightism. Actually, it only seems to get worse as society continues to be more inclined to “celebrity worship” and as the general public tries to mold itself to the façade of beauty that Hollywood movies and magazines sells to it.

So what is a short guy to do?

Since heightism isn’t going to stop, the short man has little choice. He can play to his strengths, like he has always done. There’s always nobility in overcoming any perceived obstacle and achieving success in spite of it.

However, there is also absolutely nothing wrong with gaining a competitive edge as well.

Though adult men are limited by their genetics to how tall they will grow, it is possible to learn how to get taller – by up to four inches – in permanent height in just a few weeks without using scary surgical procedures, dangerous drugs, and useless supplements.

The Grow Taller Book documents how to grow taller in a comprehensive step-by-step guide.

It’s time to make sure that heightism doesn’t rob you of the life that you deserve. Try the Grow Taller Book today and enjoy your new height of up to 4 inches taller.
